If you want to discover the hidden corners of the Barony of RIalb, you should definitely go to the Rialb Reservoir. You may know it by the name of Pantano de Rialb, but in both cases it refers to the same spectacular reservoir.

If you have trusted us on other occasions, we won’t let you down this time either. If you want to venture to discover this beautiful place, you will appreciate one of the best known and most charming places in the area. Moreover, not only will you be satisfied with the views, but you will also be able to enjoy the different activities that can be carried out (which you will discover if you continue reading).

What you should know about the Rialb Reservoir

To make your visit to the reservoir more pleasant, here is some information about the reservoir. This way, if you decide to take a look at it, nothing will come back to you!

The reservoir belongs to the rivers Segre, Rialb and Ribera Salada; it extends through several municipalities of the region of La Noguera (Ponts, La Baronia de Rialb, Tiurana) and of the region of Alt Urgell (Basella, Peramola and Oliana), but since it mainly affects the municipality of La Baronia de Rialb, the reservoir was given the name it bears today.

Construction work on the reservoir began in 1992, but it was not until 1999 that the reservoir began to be filled. It was inaugurated in 2000, and today it supplies water to around 80 municipalities.

As you can imagine, its construction had a great impact on the landscape and the environment, which is why in 2008 they began to manage the tourist promotion of the site.

If you were wondering what activities you could do in the reservoir… The time has come! The Rialb Reservoir is a place of connection with nature, and for this reason it is also an ideal place for fishing. If you are fishing lovers, you should know that it is an almost virgin setting, as it was inaugurated relatively recently. If you are interested in this area, you can get a permit on the Generalitat’s website. In addition, here is a small list of the species that can be fished: common carp, royal carp, barbel, brown trout and rainbow trout.

We would also like to add that if you go to the Port of Pomanyons (opened in 2014), you will find the water activities offered in the reservoir. The reservoir has more than 20 navigable kilometres, and in each of them you will be amazed by the beauty of the landscape, and you can do it with a kayak (single or double) or even with a motor boat.

The Rialb Reservoir has a lot to offer, and we are convinced that you will not be disappointed.

Where to sleep near the Rialb Reservoir?

We are sure that in just one day you will not be able to investigate the whole area properly, so we are going to advise you to spend the night in our rural house. Right in the heart of the Barony of Rialb, about 20 minutes from the reservoir, is the Casa dels Peixos, the perfect place to stay with your loved ones, both family and friends. The house can accommodate 16 people, so there is no better place to spend your holidays.

La Casa dels Peixos is a two-storey house of 200m2. On the first floor you will find the entrance hall, two large bedrooms with private bathrooms, and a games room equipped with games suitable for the whole family. On the first floor is the dining room (which also has direct access to the outside of the house), the kitchen, and six more large bedrooms, also with their own private bathrooms. Outside the house, fenced for privacy, there is a swimming pool with sun loungers around it, a private lake where you can fish, a barbecue, and plenty of space for parking cars or outdoor activities.
